Biography
The Salzburg-born mezzo-soprano Angelika Kirchschlager is renowned equally on the recital stage and in the opera house. She is internationally recognized as one of the foremost interpreters of Mozart and Richard Strauss. Since 1993 she has been a member of the Vienna State Opera, where she made her debut as Cherubino in Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro. That same year she was awarded the Mozartinterpretationspreis of the Mozartgemeinde Wien. In 2007 the Austrian government awarded Kirchschlager the title of Kammersängerin for her outstanding contributions to the Vienna State Opera. In 2009 she became an Honorary Member of the Royal Academy of Music in London. On the concert stage, Kirchschlager is a regular guest of the annual Lieder festival Schubertiade Schwarzenberg in Vorarlberg, Austria. She has a wide discography on the Sony Masterworks label, which has won numerous awards, including a Grammy. LMMC first appearance.
