Born into a musical family, Canadian pianist Angela Hewitt began her piano studies at 3, first performed in public aged 4, and won her first scholarship the following year. She continued her studies at Toronto’s Royal Conservatory of Music and then with French pianist Jean-Paul Sévilla at the University of Ottawa. She performs the world over, in recital and as a chamber musician and is renowned as ‘the pre-eminent Bach pianist of our time’, and for her vast repertoire and award-winning recordings for Hyperion, which include all the major keyboard works of Bach, and the complete solo works of Ravel. She launched her own music festival in Trasimeno, Italy, where she performs as recitalist, chamber musician, song accompanist, and conductor with artists of her choosing. Among her awards are Gramophone Artist of the Year (2006), an honorary doctorate from the University of Ottawa, Officer of the Order of Canada, and an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2006.
