Canadian pianist André Laplante began to study the piano at age 7, graduating from the Université de Montréal with both a Bachelor and a Master of Music degree. He furthered his studies in New York and Paris and came to international attention after winning prizes at the Geneva and Sydney piano competitions, followed by the Silver Medal at the Tchaikovsky competition in Moscow in 1978. Other awards and honours followed, among the more recent the 2004 Juno Award for orchestral recordings, Officer of the Order of Canada in 2005, and the Prix Opus – Interprète de l’Année 2005. He tours in the Far East, Australia and North America and appears with major orchestras and at top international festivals, among others the Festival International de Lanaudière and the Domaine Forget. He has served as a juror at major international piano competitions, and has many CDs on the Analekta label.
