Hailed for its artistry, technical mastery and astute programming, the Orion String Quartet gained immediate attention from its founding in 1987. The Quartet takes its name from the Orion constellation, as a metaphor for the unique personality each musician brings to the group’s collective music making. Brothers Daniel and Todd Phillips share the first chair equally, and each member of the Quartet enjoys a distinguished solo and chamber career. The Quartet performs in the world’s leading concert halls and at major festivals and is Quartet-in-Residence at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. As evidence of their strong dedication to the next generation of musicians, the artists serve on faculties of such distinguished schools as the Curtis Institute of Music and the Juilliard School. The broad range of the Quartet’s repertoire is reflected in its recordings, from modern works such as Wynton Marsalis’ First Classical Composition for Strings to the standard
quartet literature.
