Brazilian-born pianist Arnaldo Cohen began his studies at age five, graduating from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro with an honours degree in both piano and violin, while also studying for an engineering degree. He went on to become a professional violinist with the Rio de Janeiro Opera House Orchestra while continuing his piano studies with Jacques Klein, and at Klein’s urging, furthered his training in Vienna. He won First Prize at the 1972 Busoni International Competition in Italy and made a name for himself at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and in America before moving to London. He is the recipient of a fellowship from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, and holds a piano professorship at Indiana University in Bloomington. He performs in solo recitals and chamber music ensembles as well as appearing with orchestras. His recordings include CDs on the BIS label as well as IMP Classics, Naxos, and Vox.
